RULES & PATTERNS

Tambola winning rules

A winning pattern describes which numbers must be marked on one ticket. The host chooses the patterns before play and should explain exactly how each one works. Here are the most popular options.

Six classic winning patterns

  • Early Five: the first player to mark any five numbers on one ticket.
  • Top Line: all five numbers in the ticket's top row.
  • Middle Line: all five numbers in the middle row.
  • Bottom Line: all five numbers in the bottom row.
  • Four Corners: the first and last printed numbers in both the top and bottom rows.
  • First Full House: all 15 numbers on one ticket.
These six make a balanced default game. For a shorter game, the host can choose any four.

Multiple Full Houses

A game can continue after the first Full House. Second Full House and Third Full House are awarded to the next different tickets to complete all 15 numbers.

The host should decide whether the same player may win more than one Full House using different tickets.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

  • Breakfast: every printed number in columns 1–3.
  • Lunch: every printed number in columns 4–6.
  • Dinner: every printed number in columns 7–9.
These patterns use columns—not the ticket's three rows.

Star and Pyramid

Shape patterns can vary between groups, so the host's displayed definition is always the one to follow.

  • Star: the four corner numbers plus the centre number of the middle row.
  • Pyramid: one chosen position in the top row, two in the middle and three in the bottom. The exact positions should be shown before play.

Odd, Even and ticket halves

  • Odd Numbers: every odd number printed on one ticket.
  • Even Numbers: every even number printed on one ticket.
  • First Half: every printed number from 1 to 45.
  • Second Half: every printed number from 46 to 90.

Rules for fair claims

  • A winning pattern must be completed on one ticket unless the host explicitly says otherwise.
  • Only called numbers count.
  • A player should claim promptly and identify the ticket when playing with more than one.
  • A pattern normally has one winner unless the host announces shared or multiple prizes.
  • Prize rules, ties and late-claim rules should be agreed before the first number.
Tambola For All disables a winning rule after its valid claim and records the result for everyone to see.
